Goobe’s Book Republic, Bangalore’s favourite little independent bookstore, is looking for a winter intern! The internship will run from Nov 20 2018 to Jan 5th 2019, full-time at the bookstore in the exciting Church Street neighborhood of Bangalore.
The intern will be paid. This is not a remote internship. We will need you to be present at the bookstore.
Date: Nov 20 2018 to Jan 5th 2019
Hours: 10:30 am to 7 pm, 6 days a week (Monday to Saturday). 10:30 am to 9 pm on the days we have events, no more than two days during this period. You can take two hours out of your day on the next working day.

Compensation: Rs. 4000 + books worth Rs. 1000 from the bookstore at the end of the internship. You will also receive a recommendation certificate if you successfully complete the internship, which you can use for later job applications.
Requirements:
– You are over 18 years of age.
– You are currently enrolled in high school (Class 11, 12 or equivalent) or a BA/MA degree in English, History, Sociology, Journalism or related disciplines.
– You read, write and speak fluently in English.
– You know how to use MS Word, email and social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Knowledge of image-editing softwares like Photoshop is preferable but not necessary.
– You are polite and professional in your manners.
– You are very excited about books, especially science, science fiction, fantasy, poetry and social justice.
– You are enthusiastic to learn about bookselling and author/event management.
Duties:
– You will stay at the bookstore during open hours, welcome and interact with customers.
– When there are few or no customers, you are welcome to read the books from our shelves.
– You will help with shelving and alphabetizing books, make sure they are in the correct sections, keep track of soiled or damaged copies.
– You will help prepare our space during author events (rearrange chairs, put up a display of books, make sure snacks and drinks are properly distributed, etc).
– You will put up Facebook and Twitter notices for our events, and take photos and post them after the event.
– Some other minor duties may be required, but nothing beyond your work hours.

Out-of-town applicants:
We prefer a candidate from Bangalore, but do not discriminate if you live elsewhere and are willing to come to Bangalore for the duration of the internship. However, you must bear your own travel and accommodation costs, as these are not included in the internship.
