Tanya Chowhan, intern (Goobe’s Angel for a month) is an Architect / Interior Designer and an Independent freelance artist. She makes her canvas wherever she goes. Travel, Design, Music and comics are her essentials for living. Excited to experiment with different flavors of coffee from all around the world. Always on a lookout for interesting design, compositions and reads. Currently, she’s getting a grip on the universe’s existence because the real magic lies there. A subjective conversationalist. Books are such, that makes your mind wanders and heart restless and at the same time, a great source wisdom. She believes, finding joy in little things are overwhelming and if you want to change the environment around you for a better society, then it should always start from within because a little progress today will be something you will be proud of it tomorrow.

 

 

Amit Pandey has been working in Goobe’s Book Republic as a librarian for the past four years now. He summarize how the years have been in a nutshell: “ I could quite easily say that the years I’ve spent here have been the best of my life.”

“Now, I’m not just saying that for the heck of it. Indeed, there are some really strong reasons why Goobe’s is such a vital part of my life now.

There’s the knowledge, of course. Books are incredible treasures, and being surrounded by them is an absolute privilege.  But books are just the half of a whole here. If books transport me to a different galaxy, it’s the incredible people who visit us at the bookstore who join me in these journeys. That being said, I can be a guide for someone new to this journey too, because a librarian’s job is to connect people to new dimensions of adventure and knowledge, irrespective of the kind of book which takes them there. “

 

“Srikara dattatreya is a librarian and bookseller. ‘Books, Bicycles, Buses, Bengaluru, and Bangalore, these five ‘B’s, pretty much, define Srikara Dattatreya’s current preoccupations to a large extent. With a background in Science (albeit an abysmal one), he jumped to researching and writing on topics of history and heritage, until he became part of Team Goobe’s Book Republic. When he is not dusting the books at the store or helping a customer find one or setting up for an event, he is busy reading, ruminating, reminiscing, or immersed in reverie. Mostly just reading, though. Also, he finds himself deeply engaged when writing letters, write-ups, blog-posts, emails and even text messages.’

“Ravi Menezes is an independent bookseller from Bangalore and the owner of Goobe’s Book Republic, the city’s favorite little bookstore-and-library for science fiction, fantasy, poetry and social-justice titles. Before opening the bookstore in 2009, Ravi was running a B&B in Bangalore, an architectural photographer and a slave of Mickey Mouse at Walt Disney World, Orlando. Ravi sees his bookstore as a “republic” because an independent bookstore is one of the spaces within a larger political nation where ideas are inspired and nurtured. In the current politically right-wing environment of India, Goobe’s Book Republic upholds its small sanctuary of free and liberal thinking. Ravi is also currently in the process of developing a science fiction and fantasy magazine, in order to encourage liberal and innovative futuristic visions of India. Ravi also thinks that Science Fiction is better than anything else as it is forward looking.”
